September comes with important announcements from the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) on grant payouts for September 2025. There are early payout montages and ongoing bonus pay situations with which beneficiaries, policymakers, and community-support organizations should familiarize themselves.
Official Payment Schedule
This following schedule has been confirmed by SASSA for payment for the month of September 2025:
- Older Persons Grant: Tuesday, 2 September 2025.
- Disability Grant: Wednesday, 3 September 2025.
- All other grants including Child Support and Social Relief of Distress (SRD): Thursday, 4 September 2025.
The agency has insisted that beneficiaries do not need to rush on their first day for payment. Sometimes the money stays in their accounts as long as they want.
Early Payouts: What Are They?
Addressing the need for extra cash during holiday seasons, SASSA is planning early payouts for festive season grants, including the payout scheduled for September 2025. This advanced release of funds gives the beneficiaries some time to plan for the holiday expenses, and it is not considered a bonus.
While the grant is referred to as a “Festive Season Grant,” there is no confirmation that any extra amounts will be disbursed. Instead, the intent is to simply assist households who are faced with higher costs during that period, which is still a big help to people relying on social grants.
What About Bonus Payments?
Contrary to some expectations, there have been no announcements from SASSA regarding bonus or additional payments for September 2025. Beneficiaries should expect early disbursement and nothing in the way of extra funds or augmentations to the grants they receive.
