The official payment program for September 2025 has been announced and clarified by SASSA. With the amended grant amounts and consolidated payment procedure, SASSA is committed to the fast and safe payment to those vulnerable groups accepted as aged, disabled, and those of families. Dates of payment, with the amounts for each grant, had been announced in this article, together with some information regarding the beneficiaries.
The Confirmed Payment Schedule for September 2025
In association with the schedule prepared by SASSA for the month of September 2025, a measure of separating payment days was envisaged in order to reduce overcrowding at the pay points and to allow each group of beneficiaries to observe their own preferences; the schedule is as follows:
• Older Persons Grant: Tuesday, 2 September 2025.
• Disability Grant: Wednesday, 3 September 2025.
• Child Support and Other Grants: Thursday, 4 September 2025.
Reviewed Grants: Friday, 5 September 2025.
Beneficiaries are advised not to rush to the collection points on the first day of payment, since as from the date of deposit, they will have money on their accounts already. The very purpose of having a staggered approach is to reduce queues that might otherwise clog pay points and, in the process, guarantee safety.
2025 Grant Amendments
In April 2025, SASSA gave effect to amendments whose purpose was to raise permanent social grants in accordance with the rising cost of living. Starting from September 2025, the following amounts shall be paid for social grants:
• Old Age Grant: 2,315R
• Disability Grant: 2,315R
• Child Support Grant: 560R
• Foster Care Grant: 1,250R • Care Dependency Grant: 2,315R
• War Veterans Grant: 2,335R
• Grant-in-Aid: 560R
The increased payments will keep about 19 million beneficiaries afloat, while the social grant budget was projected at R284.7 billion for the financial year 2025/26. They do not, however, include the amendments for Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant, which is for 370R.
BANKING SYSTEMS AND AVAILABILITY
SASSA puts the payment systems at the convenience and accessibility of the users:
• The SASSA Card: The card is issued with the Post Office and may be used for ATM cash withdrawal or retail store purchases.
• South African Post Office payments: The Post Office pays cash to the recipients in the remotest areas that have no banking network.
