SASSA has announced that grants for September 2025 will be paid in the following manner:
- The Older Persons Grant will be paid on Tuesday, 2 September 2025
- The Disability Grant will be paid on Wednesday, 3 September 2025
- All other grants, including the Child Support Grant, will be paid on Thursday, 4 September 2025
What Other Grants Are There?
SASSA pays out the following social assistance grants:
- Older Persons Pensions
- Disability Grants
- War Veterans Grants
- Care Dependency Grants
- Child Support Grants
- Foster Child Grants
- Grant-in-Aids
- Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grants
Beneficiary Guidelines
SASSA requests that clients do not withdraw all their funds on the first day of payment to prevent overcrowding at pay points. They may also use a SASSA card to purchase items, which lowers the need for large cash withdrawals and the risks associated with holding cash.
Launch of Biometric enrolment
Effective from September 1, 2025, SASSA offices will implement mandatory biometric enrolment for all their users. This will include face and fingerprint recognition using the electronic Know Your Client (eKYC) system. The intention of the programme is to enhance identity verification and reduce fraud, especially that which comes from fraudulent identity documents.
Applications that do not contain biometric data will be processed but the applicants will be informed by SASSA to complete their enrolment for completion.
Why Change At This Time?
Addressing examinations and the delays to biometric checks is overdue. The CEO of SASSA has assured the community that all of the issues are sorted and that the employees in charge of the programme do have the competence to use the new system. This strongly relates to the contract social assistance fraud program’s continued efforts to improve social assistance grant delivery.
