SASSA Announces September Payment Schedule for Seniors, Child Support, and Foster Grants

In the instances when payments could go on to time to millions of beneficiaries, SASSA has issued the names and amounts of payees for the month of September 2025. These grants are aimed at meeting the needs of vulnerable people on any of the old-age, child support, or foster child grants. With more than about 19 million grants disbursed every month, such a structured system assists beneficiaries in planning their finances.

Grant Payment Calendar for September 2025

In order to prevent bottle-necking at pay points, SASSA has a staggered payment system in motion, with the following date calendar for September 2025:

• Older Persons Grant: 2 September 2025, Tuesday – R2,310 for those aged 60-74 years and R2,330 for those aged 75 years and above.

These groups of people, depending on their qualifying criteria, are affected by the grant:

• Old Age Grant: Any South African citizen or person with permanent resident status who is 60 years or older with less than R86,280 post-tax household income per annum. Presently, the Older Persons’ Grant gives R2,310 to any person between 60 and 74 years and R2,330 to any person past 75, but further changes will likely take place upon their adjustment for inflation in April 2025.

• Child Support Grant: This is paid to the lawful parent or guardian of a child less than 18 years of age who is in fact caring for that child and has an income of less than R5,100 per month (if single) or R10,200 (if married). A grant of R560 is paid in addition to R250 for orphans.

• Foster Child Grant: Foster parents appointed by a court in respect of any particular child under the age of 18 need to receive foster child grants, though this appointment must be supported by a court order and proof of income; payment is R1,250 per child.

Avoiding Delays and Fraud

Delays may be caused by erroneous bank details, public holidays, or system updates. The beneficiaries should:  Have their personal information and banking details updated without delay.Check on the status of their grants from time to time to be sure it has been authorized. Report all unauthorized deductions (for example, by insurance schemes) to the SASSA toll-free number 0800 60 10 11 or in local offices, since only one deduction not exceeding 10 percent is allowed with beneficiary consent.
