The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has confirmed that the pension grant will stand at R2,315 in September 2025. This amount will continue to provide essential financial help to older citizens who are grappling with higher living costs and economic challenges. This step is in line with the government’s efforts to assist the more needy groups in the country.
Significance of the Grant Increase for Pensioners
Seniors receive benefits for which the increase means more than just figures on a statement. With rising inflation, the increased grant provides relief and goes a long way in helping maintain the dignity and health of beneficiaries. Seniors can use the surplus to purchase groceries, pay bills, and even get basic medical treatment.
Payment Schedule: Take Note
Beneficiaries should be aware of the following payment dates for the month of September:
- Old Age Grant: Tuesday, 2 September 2025
- Disability Grant: Wednesday, 3 September 2025
- All Other Grants (including Child Support, Foster Care, etc.): Thursday, 4 September 2025
SASSA is reminding beneficiaries not to withdraw all their monies on the first day. Instead, they can withdraw small amounts as needed or, where possible, use the SASSA card to make purchases. This helps manage ATM queues and enhances personal safety.
Protect Your Grant—No Unauthorized Deductions
SASSA has made clear, and for good reason, the policy on deductions: there can only be one deduction a month, no more than 10% of the grant total, and only with the beneficiary’s informed consent. Should you detect any irregular grant deductions, SASSA strongly recommends reporting the matter without delay, either by visiting the nearest office or by sending an SMS. Just send your ID number and the name of the financial institution to 34548.
Action Required From Pensioners
Update your bank account information with SASSA to avoid any payment disruptions.
- Make planned withdrawals — avoid crowding payment points.
- Keep an eye on your grant account for any cuts or unexplained deductions.
- Protect your funds by reporting any suspicions without delay.
