The NSFAS schedule for payments having an effect in August 2025 has been released. The University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) has confirmed that payments will be made on Monday, 4 August 2025, for all campuses under Cycle 7. This cycle would include book allowances, meal allowances, and transport allowances. Private accommodation is to be paid based on the other dates – Monday, 1 September 2025.
Allowance Type and Payment Details
NSFAS grants several types of merely allowances to eligible students:
- Accommodation Allowance: Workers are provided to students who live on campus or in private accommodation.
- Living Allowance: To meet daily subsistence expenses.
- Transport Allowance: Costs associated with commuting.
- Book Allowance: Learning materials.
- Incidental Allowance: Other expenses incurred in relation to studies.
Payment of the allowances is thus conditional upon the submission and verification of duly registered data by the institutions. It is upon those institutions to submit said data within indicated timeframes, so as to enable the disbursement of funds.
Important NSFAS Allowance Dates
Following is the 2025 schedule for NSFAS allowance payments:
- Cycle 6: Monday, 7 July 2025
- Cycle 7: Monday, 4 August 2025
- Cycle 8: Monday, 1 September 2025
- Cycle 9: Monday, 6 October 2025
- Cycle 10 (Final Payment): Monday, 3 November 2025 .
Students should check their registration status and confirm that their institution has submitted the relevant information in order to prevent delays in the receiving of allowances.
How to Ensure Timely Payment
To have NSFAS allowances disbursed timely, a student should do the following:
- Check Registration: Confirm that his/her registration details have been submitted by their in institution and are up to date.
- Banking Details: Provide NSFAS with the correct bank information so that payments do not bounce.
- Follow Communication: Keep an eye out for any communication from NSFAS or the institution concerning their payment status.
- Submission of Documents: Respond expediently to any requests from NSFAS or the institution for additional documentation.
