SASSA Grant Increase September 2025: New Amounts And Payment Dates

With SASSA’s effective increases to various grants starting in September 2025, the millions of South Africans who depend on social assistance will be receiving an additional amount, though temporary relief. This offer is particularly notable at a time like this, when the cost of food, transport, and daily essentials continues to rise sharply. The government has stepped in to safeguard vulnerable groups of people, including the elderly, disabled, caregivers, and families with small children.

SASSA Grant Increase

The Old Age Grant, socially the most significant, increases from R2,185 to R2,315. The Disability Grant is similarly increased to maintain equality between the two grants. Both the War Veterans and Care Dependency Grants are set to increase, with the Veterans Grant rising to R2,335, and the Care Dependency Grants set to R2,315. The Foster Child Grant will also be increased to R1,250. The Child Support Grant is also set to increase to R560, offering relief to families with younger children; while the Grant-in-Aid has also been increased to R560. This provides an additional layer of assistance to those in continued care.

SASSA Announces Payment Schedule for September 2025

In an effort to keep the beneficiaries informed, SASSA has communicated the payment schedule for September 2025 grants. The older persons are scheduled to receive their grants first, on Tuesday, the 2nd of September. Disability grants follow the next day, on Wednesday, the 3rd of September. All other grants, including the Child Support, Foster Child, Care Dependency, War Veterans, and Grant in Aid, will be paid starting from Thursday, the 4th of September. Implementing such an orderly payment schedule ensures that overcrowding during pay times is minimised and that ATMs and retailers can serve their clients more efficiently.

Beneficiaries Urged to Stay Prepared

Despite the benefits of the increase, beneficiaries must check with SASSA to confirm benefitting from the increase. Incorrect or outdated banking and contact details may lead to delayed or missed payments. The country’s officials have also reminded South Africans of the fact that there is no pressure to immediately withdraw grants on payday, as funds will be retained in their accounts. This measure curtails queue lengths and enhances protection for beneficiaries.

Grants may not be offset without prior approval. Only one offset may be made each month and the offset must not exceed 10% of the total grant value. Any beneficiary noticing irregular offsets must report such irregular offsets to SASSA so that it can be corrected.
