If your SASSA Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant was canceled once before and you need financial assistance now, I guess you already know the good bit-your grant can be reinstated. Here’s a simplified version of how to go about it.
When You Can Reinstate A Canceled Grant
The option to reinstate is only there when you really canceled your SRD grant, maybe because your situation had changed for the better at that time. If things have changed since, you can go online and reinstate the benefits yourself. Cancelations effected by SASSA through a system or policy action cannot be reinstated in this manner and may require a different appeals process.
Stepwise Procedure For Reinstatement Online
Access the Official SRD Portal. You will have to go to the reinstatement window provided on the SASSA SRD website.
- Locate the “Reinstate My Cancelled Application” Option. Locate the tab or button and then click it.
- Input ID Number and Phone Number. Enter your South African ID number, along with the cellular number which was registered during your application.
- Obtain and Input the OTP. Using SMS, a One-Time Pin will be sent to you. Enter this OTP in the designated area on the portal.
- Select a Reason for Reinstating. From available options, select either “Cancelled in error,” “Lost income,” or “Other.”
- Confirm the Action. The portal will now request confirmation; confirm the acceptance to reinstate the grant by selecting “Yes.”
What Happens Next?
SASSA will now begin processing the reinstatement once it is submitted. You will also be sent a notification message that will declare whether your reinstatements were approved or rejected. Upon approval, you should then resume receiving monthly payments following the normal SRD payment period.
Eligibility Requirements To Bear In Mind
To be reinstated into the SRD grant, a person should still be able to meet all other conditions as were required for the grant, including but not limited to:
- Being an SA citizen, permanent resident, refugee status granted under South African law, or holder of a special permit;
- being in South Africa;
- being at least 18 years old and under 60 years of age;
- having no income exceeding the applicable threshold, which is normally R640 a month;
- and they should not be a recipient of any other SASSA grant, UIF benefits, NSFAS money, or somehow living in a government institution.
What To Do If Your Application Is Declined
If your reinstatement were to be rejected, in most cases, you will have grounds to appeal, except for a very few circumstances depending on the reason for rejection. Time is of the essence; act fast with good documentary evidence and always keep an eye on SASSA correspondence.
